One of our lenders just sent the latest mortgage rate quote.  If you are fortunate to have 10% down and 740 credit score, the lender said the rate for 30yr conventional is 4.5% - 4.75%.

We were informed about two recent open house thefts in our NC Piedmont Triad area.

Two young Caucasian men about six feet tall have attended open houses, taken laptops and hidden them under their coats, talked with the open house agent and then departed.  They have been driving what appears to be an orange PT Cruiser or Chevrolet HT, possibly orange in color.  The police have been notified of these two incidents. 

All home owners should be very cautious about leaving valuables out in the open.

All agents should have someone else attend with them such as another agent in the office to monitor suspicious activity and just for safety reasons in general.

With today's current economic situation, layoffs, no jobs available and no end is site..... the general public is more inclined to steal and sell to make money.

Industry groups have been pressuring President-elect Barack Obama and lawmakers to lend a helping hand to the housing market. The National Association of Realtors has called for Treasury to buy mortgage-backed securities.  Also, a coalition of industry groups have banded together under the "Fix Housing First" banner to call for measures including tax credits of up to $22,000 and the creation of a 30-year mortgage, carrying rates as low as 2.99%.

Currently, Lobbyists are pushing the Treasury Department to consider a plan to purchase mortgage-backed securities in the hopes of driving mortgage rates to as low as 4.5%.

The increased demand for mortgage-backed securities would prompt mortgage rates to drop. That, in turn, would enable homeowners to refinance into lower-cost loans and make it cheaper for potential homebuyers to get into the market.
